Visitor (Standard) Visa

Officially part of the Appendix V Visitor Routes.

The Visitor (Standard) Visa is the obvious choice if you are visiting the UK for tourism or seeing famil and friends.

It is important to pay attention to the Genuine Visitor requirement. Unlike visitor visas of some other countries, such as the Schengen visitor visa for example, the UK Visitor (Standard) Visa does NOT carry any hard time limits such as a maximum stay of 90 days within 180 days. However, this does not mean that you can spend 6 months in the UK back to back with a short break overseas. In that case one is likely to be denied at the border for failing to satisfy the Genuine Visitor requirement.

You do not have to apply for the Visitor Visa if your nationality is on the "Non-visa National" list, unless you are staying in the UK for longer than 6 months. When entering the UK, you might nevertheless be asked by the the border officer for evidence demonstrating that the visitor requirements are satisfied.
