The Health and Care Worker Visa is a variant of the general Skilled Worker Visa. The Health and Care Worker Visa was launched in 2020 in response to the COVID-19 crisis. The Health and Care Worker Visa confers the advantages of a reduced visa application fee and exemption from the Immigration Health Surcharge.


To be eligible, all the requirements for the Skilled Worker Visa will need to be met. In addition, the applicant needs to be sponsored for a job in a Health or Care Worker occupation category.

How long you can stay on the Health and Care Worker Visa will depend on the length of employment stated on your Certificate of Sponsorship.

You may be able to bring your partner and children with you to the UK on the Health and Care Worker Visa.

You can do a second job while on the Skilled Worker Visa. You still need to continue your main job, and you can work up to 20 hours a week in the second job (subject to restrictions around the nature of the occupation) without updating your sponsorship.

Yes. You may become eligible for settlement after 5 years residency in the UK on the Skilled Worker Visa.

The Health and Care Worker Visa benefits form reduced fees. The UK government fees for the Health and Care Worker Visa are: £232 if the job lasts for three years or less, or £464 if the job lasts longer than 3 years.

You might also need to pay the Biometric Enrolment Fee. However, you will be exempt from the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS).
